Former Underwriter Sentenced for Falsifying Documents

JeVenna Smith-Harris, a former underwriter for First National Funding Company, was sentenced for making false statements to HUD. Specifically, the defendant was sentenced by Judge Jose L. Linares on 10/10/07, to probation for a term of 5 years, restitution in the amount of $12,217.00, and a special assessment of $100.00.

Smith-Harris pled guilty to falsifying employment verification documents used by unqualified borrowers to obtain FHA-insured mortgages. Losses to HUD as a result of the scam were $9.8 million after 66 mortgages defaulted.

Smith-Harris was debarred from procurement and nonprocurement transactions with HUD and throughout the Executive Branch of the Federal Government for 3 years.
