Disbarred Attorney Pleads Guilty to Grand Larceny
Nassau County District Attorney Denis Dillon has announced a guilty plea in a case involving a disbarred attorney who continued to practice law, and in the process stole more than $6,000 from two clients.
Robert Sherman, 49, of 77 Virginia Avenue, Plainview, pleaded guilty in County Court December 15 to two counts of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree.
According to Dillon, ”Sherman was admitted to the practice of law in 1981. He was suspended in October of 1997 and disbarred in May of 1999. Despite this, he continued to practice law, handling real estate transactions and appearing at closings. He has admitted that during the course of these transactions, he stole a total of more than $12,000 from several clients.”
At the time of these offenses Sherman was on probation, having previously pled guilty to practicing law after having been disbarred. He will be sentenced January 31. Judge Abbey Boklan indicated that he will receive 1-3 years in prison, as well as a civil judgment of $12,998.82 in restitution to his victims.
