Man Jailed for Swindling Thousands in Fake Mortgage Assistance Scheme

Anthony Carta, 53, Detroit, Michigan, was sentenced to 30 to 99 years in prison for taking hundreds of thousands of dollars from more than 100 victims who believed he was going to help them with mortgage loans through his Southfield, Michigan, entity Freedom By Faith Ministries.

As previously reported by Mortgage Fraud Blog, the defendant pleaded guilty on March 9, 2015, to charges contained in the indictment involving a criminal enterprise and false pretenses Oakland County Circuit Court.

Carta was ordered to pay $400,000 in restitution to the victims. Freedom By Faith Ministries was ordered to pay $674,001 in restitution.

  1. Hello, I am a victim of mortgage fraud committed by Anthony Carta, aka freedom by faith. Anthony received a 30 year prison sentence but it seems as though he was released in 2017. How is that possible did get get off on a technicality?
