Bank Officer Charged with Soliciting and Accepting Bribe in Sale of Bank Property

Michael Ghabrial, 49, Martinsville, New Jersey, was charged by Information with one count of bank bribery.

According to the Information, Ghabrial, an officer of Valley National Bank (“VNB”), solicited and accepted a bribe in exchange for agreeing to sell real estate property owned by VNB at a reduced price.

If convicted, Ghabrial faces a maximum possible sentence of 30 years imprisonment, a five- year period of supervised release, a $1 million fine, and a $100 special assessment.

United States Attorney Zane David Memeger announced the charges.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Vineet Gauri.
