A Tampa lawyer who helped swindle homeowners out of $4.7 million during the mortgage crisis has had his law license revoked by the state Supreme Court.
In July of 2014, the attorneys general for Florida and Connecticut filed a federal lawsuit alleging lawyer Ian S. Berger, along with several others, had scammed struggling homeowners by promising them loan modifications if they signed on to “mass joinder” lawsuits against their lenders.
William Chrissikopoulos, 43, Las Vegas, Nevada; and Lynda Finch-Estrada, 54, Las Vegas, have been arrested on a warrant for various felony theft and fraud charges involving alleged operation of a mortgage lending fraud in Las Vegas.
Corvus Law Group is mailing ads to Idaho homeowners inviting them to join scam lawsuits against their mortgage lenders. The ads look like government forms and claim homeowners can get large principal reductions or other monetary relief if they join the lawsuit.

Consumers are being warned to be wary of any notices or advertisements that claim to offer homeowners facing foreclosure “complete forgiveness of the loan” or other monetary relief if they join a class-action lawsuit. Such ploys are likely a pretext to collect illegal up-front fees for foreclosure assistance.
